Blog 7 Camera movement and editing

                Camera movement and editing

1) Pick three aspects of camera movement in the Minority Report clip. Identify the type of camera movement and write about why the director chose to use that camera movement in the scene and what effect it has on the audience

.Handheld.

The camera movement chosen is handheld movement. The director may have chosen to use this movement to create a sense of urgency and unease. This can effect the audience as the unsteady movement of the camera can build tension within the audience as it may be leading up to a important point within the plot.

.Pan.

The camera movement chosen is Pan. The director may have chosen to use this movement to create a fast paced scene to create a feeling of action. This can effect the audience as the fast yet steady movement can create a sense of.

.Tilt.

The camera movement used is Tilt. The director may have chose this movement to make the subjects looks big and powerful. This can effect the audience as it can make them feel small and weak compared to the subject.

2) Pick two aspects of editing in the Minority Report clip and write about what effect it has on the audience.

.Cut.

The use of the editing cut can create a sudden change of scenery within the audience making them have a sudden change in emotion or how they perceive the previous clip.

.Pace.

The use of the editing Pace can create a sudden change of pace going from slow to fast, this can evoke emotional reactions within the audience from the sudden change.

3) Finally, revise last week's work on camerawork by picking out two shots or camera angles in the clip that communicate meaning to the audience.

over the shoulder shot

The use of the over the shoulder shot can allow the audience to see what is happening from the subjects perspective allowing the audience to see and feel what the subject is feeling allowing the audience to find a meaning.

Medium close up shot

The use of the medium close up shot can allow the audience to analyse the subjects emotions or features to a greater depth allowing them to understand the meaning behind the subjects decisions.

Blog 6: Camera angles and shots

Camera angles and shots

Medium close up

This is a medium close up shot as you can see some of the shoulders, and majority of the head
This shot can show emotion and the details in the face to help the Audience understand what the subject or actor is feeling.

Over the shoulder shot

This is a over the shoulder shot as you can see the back of the actor or subject and some of the surrounding setting. this shot can show the perspective of what the subject or actor is looking at and can help the audience understand how it feels to be in that position.

Close up shot

This is a close up shot as you cant see the shoulders and it is enhanced on the face. This shot can show a even more enhanced shot of the emotions the actor or subject may feel allowing the audience to dive deeper into the meanings and what may potentially happen next.

                             Camera Angles

                                                                      Birds eye angle

This is a birds eye view as it is a view from above and you can see the whole thing. This can affect the audience as it gives them a deeper understanding and view of what is happening from above while gazing down. Another way this can affect the audience as it may show that something major is about to occur.

Blog Task 5: Mise-en-scene

                         Mise-en-scene

The opening of stranger things establishes the setting as ominous and frantic. the characters as young, carefree and naïve. and the genre as sci-fi horror seemingly set in the 1980s as there are old fashioned props such as bikes, old cars. the lightening is dull and slightly orange creating that hint of oldness.

we know this because we can see The character at the start is wearing a white lab coat. This suggests to the audience that he is a lab doctor. but what adds the ominous theme is the franticness of how fast he was running with lights flickering rapidly. adding a sense of desperation. the four kids are playing a game when they are told something than scurrying to leave.

The actor movement is extremely rapid this can connote that the actor is in a state of fear or urgency trying to run away from something that may harm them or have importance in a future scene.

Extension tasks

Watch the extract again. Try and write an analysis of the other aspects of mise-en-scene. Work through all the aspects of CLAMPS (the mnemonic we use to remember mise-en-scene).

COSTUME

Some characters in this show wear a white lab coat.

LIGHTING

The lighting changes rapidly sometimes changing from rapid and urgent to calm and collected.

ACTOR MOVEMENT AND PLACEMENT

The actor movement and placement is frantic and rapid.

MAKEUP AND HAIR

The hair is typical of one of the 1980s the time the series had been set. The makeup can vary on the characters sometimes ranging from a more soft and neutral look to a bold eccentric look.

PROPS

Some props used can vary from old-style 1980s cars, bikes and a collections of board games a weapons

SETTINGS

The setting is ominous and dull but can switch to joyful and lively.

Now think about the clip more generally. What does this opening sequence suggest the series will be about in terms of narrative, character and genre? What is it that tells you this?

This clip can tell us how the plot began and what led to it. The opening scene can suggest the series may be action filled and dark because the lightening is dull and the sounds are audios you'd find during high tension and fearful moments this also includes the speed the clips go at can vary speeding up at high tension, and slowing down at the calm. The characters are at vary of age seemingly at early-teen or adulthood. and the genre seems to be horror sci-fi

Blog Post 3: Advertisement Analysis (D+C)

                     Advertisement Analysis

Image result for water aid advert

the denotations are the fact that the boy does not look really enthusiastic. he looks serious yet ,pleading. staring at the camera, with a rocky background while sitting on a chair. The background is slightly blurred.

This can connote that he is poor or unable to afford correct and proper hygiene. The blurred background can perhaps connote that they want the audience to focus on the kids and not the surrounding

The slogan "Dig toilets not graves" can show that people want less graves to be made and more areas of hygiene to be made in replace of it. Perhaps to lower yearly death rates and increase hygiene rates.

In this advert for WaterAid, The slogan "Dig toilets not graves", connotes that people are dying due to dirty and unhygienic water and surroundings. The boy connotes innocence and naivety. This is effective because as it allows the consumers to understand the situation and know there are people and kids out there dying to little to no hygiene and lack of nutrients. The use of a child can be seen as a marketing strategy as people are more likely to sympathises with a young child resulting with more income coming in for the charity.

The woman looks happy as she is smiling while staring at the camera. she is wearing blue Demin style clothes wearing white platformed heels

the colour blue can connote trust and confidence within the company or brand allowing the consumer to know that this is a trustworthy advert.

In this advert there is a woman wearing mostly Demin style clothing, and a discounted price of 50% off. The colour blue, often has positive connotations of trust and confidence. This is effective because it allows the buyer to know that they are a trustworthy company and that they are confident in the quality of their clothing and  products they sell.

blog post 2: Movie poster analysis

                       Movie poster analysis

language:

The title, slogan and production company follow what is expected for a film poster. The main image of the film is a young bruised and blooded up young man this can imply a subtle twist of what could've been simple school environment now takes a dark turn and becomes something brutal and dangerous. the slogan 'stand to protect it' can imply that protagonist retaliates shifting into a completely different person.

Industry:

This film had been produced by the company Netflix following the creation of the webtoon by Seopass and Kim Jin-seok, Netflix has made many high charting series and movies, upholding a good and lasting reputation.

Audience:

This looks like it would be intended to target a audience of male viewers. though the typical age range would fall for the late teenage years for early adulthood due to the seemingly gory and action packed environment.

Representation:

the focal picture shows a young man seemingly in his late-teens stood injured in a uniform. Perhaps this can show the rebelliousness often connected to teens with connections of getting into a number of fights and acting out of order.
